Alvin James
Pete
Dec 25, 1941 — Sep 10, 2026
Lake Charles, LA
Alvin James Pete, affectionately known as "Gene" to some, and "Pete" to others, passed away on September 10, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on December 25, 1941, in Ville Platte, Louisiana, to Melvin and Frances Antoine Pete. He was 84 years of age.
Alvin's parents moved to Lake Charles where he was raised. He was a graduate of W.O. Boston High School, and he was proud to be a Panther. He was employed with ConocoPhillips for twenty-two years. Following his retirement, Alvin spent his time fishing, watching old Black and White Western movies, listening to zydeco music, and attending trail rides. He also found joy and contentment landscaping his yard and preserving antique and classic cars.
Alvin was a faithful member of Mount Calvary Baptist Church for over 70 years. He was an active participant in the Sunday School department where his faith came to action.
Alvin will be remembered with love by those who knew him and shared in his life. He is survived by his wife, Patricia Pete; his daughter, Gwendolyn Ballou of Westlake, Louisiana; his sons, Carl Pete, Sr. (Wendy) of Moss Bluff, Louisiana, and Darrell Pete (Michelle) of Lake Charles, Louisiana, and his stepson Robert Johnson, Jr. (Talitha) of Yukon, Oklahoma. He is also survived by his brother, Herbert Pete (Thail) of Moss Bluff, Louisiana, and his sister, Joanna Guillory (Danny) of Moss Bluff, Louisiana. He will be missed by his seven grandchildren, five step grandchildren, and eleven great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents. Their loving foundation remained a part of his life and it remains a part of his story and his family’s heritage.
Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance of Alvin on Saturday, September 19, 2026, at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, 300 North Blake Street, Lake Charles, Louisiana 70601. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., followed by the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Combre Memorial Park, 2701 Opelousas Street, Lake Charles, Louisiana 70615 under the direction of King's Funeral Home.
May his memory bring comfort to his family and peace to all who mourn his passing. The family of Alvin Pete wishes to thank Lake Charles Care Center, Heart of Hospice, and Rev. Elmore Garner and the Mount Calvary church family. We are very thankful for the Morning Prayer Line and all the Prayer Warriors that stood with our family and in the gap for us. Thank you to all of our family and friends who have shown concern, understood, and supported our family during the time of his passing and in the time of Alvin's illness.
