In Celebration of the Life of Mrs. Amander (Pouchie) Arvie
On Wednesday, August 3, 2022, at 4:01 pm, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ called his beloved daughter Sis. Amander Pouchie Arvie on home to glory. Her children were present with her as she departed this life.
Amander Pouchie was born to the late Mr. and Mrs. Alvin (Alnetter) Pouchie, Sr. on November 16th in Lake Charles, Louisiana. She was a native and lifelong resident of Lake Charles, La. Amander accepted Christ as her Savior at an early age at the Bonaparte Street Church of God in Christ. She later served at Mount Olive Baptist Church and the Cathedral of Faith Missionary Baptist Church faithfully; both under the leadership of the late Rev. Hearnest Arvie. Amander attended McNeese State University in Elementary Education, Sowela Tech in Nursing and worked as a Nurse's Assistant at St. Patrick Hospital. Later she became the Project Coordinator for the Baptist Ministers' Union Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drugs (ATOD) Program for LA Health and Hospitals.
Amander Pouchie was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Mr. Horace Jason, Jr.; to this union two children were born. She later was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Rev. Hearnest Arvie; to this union three children were born and eight step-children were gained.
Sis. Amander Arvie was a very active disciple for the Lord. She faithfully served at the Cathedral of Faith Missionary Baptist Church as a Sunday School Teacher, Deaconess, choir member and with the Mission Department. In addition to her church affiliations, she was a member and also served as former President of the Ministers' Wives and Widows Fellowship of Lake Charles and Vicinity, former Chairperson of the Calcasieu M&E Association Ministers' Wives and former Director of the Louisiana Baptist State Convention Ministers' Wives and Widows.
Sis. Amander Arvie leaves to cherish her memories, two sons: Horace Jason, III and Hearnest Joseph (Talitha) Arvie both of Lake Charles, La.; three daughters: Nakia Jason of Baton Rouge, La; Elva Arvie of Houston, Tx; Alva (Tommy) Gladney of Orange, Tx; and one brother: Robert Pouchie, Sr. of Lake Charles, La; six step children: Rev. Hubert (Angela) Arvie, Darrell Arvie, Rev. Terry (Pamela) Arvie, Priscilla (Arnold) Price, Betty Jason, and Patricia Arvie, 34 grandchildren, a host of great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews – grand and great – other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by one brother: Alvin Pouchie, Jr.; and four sisters: Gertrude Francis, Betty Jean Bennett, Alnetter Jones and Alvina Pouchie.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 13, 2022, at 11:00 a.m., and funeral service at 1:00 p.m., at Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Combre Memorial Park under the direction of King's Funeral Home.
