Anetha Marie Williams was born in Beaumont, Texas on May 14, 1949 to Letell Thomas and Leola Lavergne. She was raised in Elton, Louisiana and was the oldest of the couple's seven children and remained close to her siblings throughout her life.
She was raised in Elton, Louisiana by her grandparents until she was seven years old. Up until then, Anetha's only learned language was Creole, not learning English until she started school. She graduated from Washington High in 1967 and met her knight in shining armor, Huey P. Williams shortly thereafter and married him in 1969. The couple was blessed with 5 children who Anetha would spend the majority of her life raising and caring for, while managing the affairs of the home and family.
She worked part time as a CNA in the local hospitals while pursuing her college degree, and was proud to graduate from McNeese State University with her Bachelors Degree, Masters Degree and Plus 30. She achieved these accomplishments all while teaching Special Education at Lake Charles-Boston High School.
Several years after retiring from being an educator, Anetha was diagnosed with and valiantly fought against breast cancer. She was victorious in her feat and remained cancer free.
Anetha was a natural teacher and educator. Her favorite subject to teach was Christian Education. She spent over 30 years of her life teaching Sunday School classes; therefore, impacting the lives of numerous people. Within the last several years of her life she was able to complete her life long goal of becoming an ordained minister. She accomplished this ordination with her church, Mt. Olive Baptist Church, under the pastorship of Rev. Braylon Harris. Although she enjoyed the hobbies of reading, writing, traveling, and spending time with family, her favorite past time activities were swimming with her club, The Aqua Divas, teaching and living the word of GOD.
Anetha went home to be with the Lord on February 5th, 2023, in Lake Charles, Louisiana. Anetha was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Mr. Huey Pierce Williams, her younger sisters Kim Thomas & Thelma Broussard and her brother Michael Thomas. She leaves behind in loving memory her daughters, Marisa Williams and Tikisha (Superion) Johnson, and her sons, Gabriel (Charlene) Williams, Troy Williams and Travis (Janelle) Williams. Her legacy includes her eleven grandchildren Jasmine Johnson, Jarrett Johnson, Gabriel Williams, Carmen Williams, Gracilyn Williams, Twyla Williams, Darren Williams, Theresa Williams, Jernie Johnson, Superion Johnson, Jr. and Travis Williams, Jr. She will be greatly missed by her siblings Etonia (Harvey) Auzenne, Mack (Jeanella) Thomas and Skipper (Gail) Thomas, her nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives, friends and church members. She will also be missed by her trusted companion, Blue, who was at her side until her final breath.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, February 12 at 10:00am at Mount Olive Baptist Church at 3007 Enterprise Boulevard, Lake Charles, Louisiana 70601.
