Arthur Lee Harmon, 83, departed this earthly life on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, just days shy of his next birthday. He was born September 15, 1942, to Joshua and Cinderella (Poullard) Harmon in Kinder, Louisiana. Arthur was the eldest out of eight children.
He attended Carver High School in Kinder, Louisiana. In June 1963, Arthur married Birdie Bushnell. Three children were born to this union. In 1965, Arthur and Birdie moved to California and resided there until July 1978. Arthur and Birdie moved back to Lake Charles, Louisiana where he worked for Uniroyal Tires. Shortly thereafter, Arthur started working at Schlumberger until he was injured in 1984. Arthur then worked for Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic School as a custodian for many years before transitioning his career to work for the US Postal Service delivering mail. Arthur’s last place of employment where he proudly served the community and interacted with many friends and families was at King's Funeral Home. He worked there for nearly 30 years until a major car accident in 2019 led him to his retirement.
Arthur was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church from 1978 until his passing. He was an Usher at the 8:30am Mass. He belonged to Holy Name Society, member of Knights of Peter Claver 3rd and 4th degree, where he served as Junior Knight Commander and Grand Knight. Arthur was also instrumental in building the new KPC Hall on Opelousas Street. Arthur actively served on the Mardi Gras committee, the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Luncheon committee, and the Thanksgiving Dinner committee.
He was proceeded in death by his parents Joshua and Cinderella ("Cindy"); two brothers, Mack and George; two sisters, Wanda and Joyce Ann; two children, Shelia and Bryant; and great-granddaughter Kamryn. He leaves to cherish his memories, his wife of 63 years, Birdie; daughter Stephanie; daughter in law, Lori; grandchildren Tiffanie, Danielle, Hailey, Erika, Lindsey, and Kolby; great-grandchildren Christian, Kayden, Brynley, Ethyn, Bradleigh, Gavin and Jewels. He will also be missed by his bonus grandchildren, Mario and Brionna; his brothers Larry, Walter, and Tim; and a host of nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends.
Bearers of his casket will be Chris Anderson, Kolby Harmon, Christian Harmon, Kayden Harmon, Brynley Anderson, and Ethyn Marshall. Special thanks to Lake Charles Memorial Hospital, Landmark Nursing Home, Harbor Hospice Inpatient Care, and Dr. Tuananh Pham for all the care and support you all have provided and given to Arthur and our family.
Visitation for family and friends will be on Monday, September 7, beginning at 8:00am at King's Funeral Home. Rosary will commence at 9:00am, also at King's Funeral Home. Funeral and Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 12:00pm at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church and interment at Sacred Heart Cemetery under the direction of King's Funeral Home.
