Barbara Ann King was born Memphis, Tenn. on April 25, 1939. She was the only child born to the late Josephine and Lonnie Graves. She moved to California when she was 15 years old.
She accepted Christ at an early age and became a member of King Solomon's Holy Spiritual Temple of God in Los Angles Ca. Barbara attended Centennial High School in Compton, Ca. She later advanced her education and received her Bachelor of Arts Degree from National University.
On July 1, 1958, Barbara married Richard J. King. Through their union together were born five children. The family then joined Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church.
She began working for Charles Drew Head Start on April 23, 197. She worked for 25 years as a Family Service Worker. She retired on November 1, 2000. She was a devoted Christian who prayed and read her Bible daily. She was always surrounded by her family and friends. She will be remembered by her "bossiness" towards those she loved.
Barbara Ann King departed this life on Sunday, November 7, 2004, at Harbor UCLA Medical Center in Torrance, Ca.
She leaves to cherish her memories: her loving and devoted husband, Richard j. King, Sr.; five children, Richard J. King, Jr. Karla Meeks, Verneda Peete, Reginald King and Regina King; one son-in-law, Rodney Peete; one daughter-in-law, LaVonda King; thirteen grandchildren and three great grandchildren; five aunts, two great aunts and two great uncles; two brothers-in-law, eight sisters-in-law and a host of other relatives and friends.
