Bernice Thibodeaux Pitre was a dedicated mother who treasured her children. She was a caring grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, godmother, and friend with a genuine heart of gold.

God called her to be with him on December 5, 2020, at the age of 85 at her daughter's home in South Florida. She was born to Clarence and Georgia Thibodeaux on October 8, 1935, in Mallet, Louisiana. She married James Pitre Jr. and in this union they had four children, Ann (Henderson) Williams of Lake Charles, Patricia Pitre of South Florida, Larry (Angie) Pitre of Lake Charles, and Donald (Mischelle) Pitre of Lake Charles.

Bernice loved saying the rosary, attending church services, spending time in the kitchen, preparing delicious meals for her family, having family gatherings, and going to bingo.  These were among a few things that put smiles on her face.

She was a lifelong parishioner at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church and a member of the Christian Mothers. During her life career, she worked at various places as a cook. She also did private work in homes and enjoyed sitting with the elderly that were homebound.

Her life was a living example of the Bible verse, Ephesians 4:32 — "And be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving one another, just as God also forgave you in Christ."

She is preceded in death by her husband, James Pitre Jr., father, Clarence Thibodeaux, mother, Georgia Thibodeaux, brother, Joseph Edward Thibodeaux, and sister, Annie-Lee Kennerson.

She is the proud grandmother of nine who loved her dearly, Murphy, Kyla, Crystal, Megan, Courtney, Sara, Nicholas, Da'Sha and Janeika.  Also cherishing her memory are her 12 great-grandchildren, Kennedy, Montrae, Khalil, Maleah, Jaylin, Khilee, Zane, Caden, Alex Jr., Kade, Lexani, and Kenzie.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 12, 2020, at 9:00 a.m., a rosary at 11:00 a.m., at King's Funeral Home and funeral service at 12:00 p.m., at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church.  Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery under the direction of King's Funeral Home.
