Obituary

Celeman Goodly Celestine was the first of 10 children born on December 12, 1929.  Celeman accepted Christ at an early age and after her marriage to Boyton Celestine (deceased 1985) she was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church in Mamou, LA then, moved to Lake Charles and became a parishioner of St. Margaret Catholic Church.

Celeman and Boyton Celestine were married for 37 years and in their union were born four children, Mitchell (deceased), Herbert, Thelma, and Patricia. She and her late husband were business owners servicing their community with a grocery store, dance hall, barbeque stand and farming. She worked for Evangeline Community Action, Inc., received her certification for Commissioner of Voters, a member of Christian Mothers and performed duties as a Eucharistic minister for St. Margaret Catholic Church.

Celeman enjoyed time with her family, traveling with her sisters, watching her favorite game shows, dancing to zydeco music and playing slot machines from time to time. Celeman was called to eternal rest on the morning of March 28, 2024. She will be greatly missed and her influence will forever remain in the lives of all who knew her.

Celeman is preceded in death by her parents, Togeal and Elizabeth; husband, Boyton Celestine; son, Mitchell; three brothers,  John D. Goodly, Augusta Goodly and Martin Goodly and one sister, Sarah Soileau.

Celeman is survived by and leaves to cherish her memories one son, Herbert; two daughters, Thelma Dennis and Patricia Ceasar (Frank, Sr.); her siblings, Bertha, Clarice, Martel, Jake and Pete; Grandchildren, Tonya (Thelma), Felicia, Frank Jr and Ferral (Patricia), Chantelle, Herbert Drake, Nicholas, Elizabeth, Amelia, Victor, Marcus (deceased), Gabrielle and Tawanna (Herbert); 27 great- grandchildren and 9 great-great grandchildren with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends (Faye).

The family would like to express their heartfelt Thank You for all the Prayers, words of encouragement and support during this difficult time.

Visitation will be held on Friday, April 5, 2024, at 8:00 a.m., at King's Funeral Home with a Rosary at 9:30 a.m., and funeral service at 11:00 a.m., at St. Margaret Catholic Church.  Burial will follow in the Goodly Family Cemetery on Papillion Road in Soileau, LA.
