                                                                                    The Life and Legacy

                                                                                                        Charles L. Hall

“Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.” – Psalm 23:6

Charles Leon Hall moved to his heavenly home on Sunday, October 18, 2026, surrounded by his family and friends at East Jefferson Hospital in Metairie, Louisiana.

Charles was the fourth of seven children born to Orelia Garrick Hall and Clarence Hall. He was educated in the Calcasieu Parish School System. He was a 1971 graduate of Marion High School in Lake Charles, Louisiana. Charles also was a 1975 graduate of Tulane University, in New Orleans, where he received his Bachelor of Liberal Arts Degree.

Charles was blessed with forty-four years of marriage to his loving wife, Elma Corine Davis Hall. Their life together was built on love, commitment, family and faith. Together they raised two sons, Patrick Lance Charles and Dorian J. Hall, Sr., who will forever carry their father’s lessons, values and legacy with them.

Charles' Christian walk began at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Lake Charles, Louisiana. Every Sunday, for over forty-six years he could be found attending Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Kenner. There he served as an usher and lector. On many occasion, he attended Little Zion Missionary Baptist Church to worship alongside his wife and family. His commitment to worship reflects a heart devoted to God. Of Charles' daily routine, he enjoyed reading his Bible, praying, gardening, and watching sports on the television.

Charles’ athletic accomplishments were a source of great pride to him. He was a Tulane University football All-American, a distinction that reflected his talent, determination, and dedication to the game. He proudly loved the green and blue, and his connection to Tulane remained a special part of his identity. In 1981, he was inducted into the Tulane Athletic Hall of Fame. Charles alongside three other athletic trailblazers, were recognized at Tulane’s 50th Anniversary in 2021.

He dedicated more than thirty-five years of his life to educating and helping students learn, grow, and build a foundation for their future. His commitment to education extended beyond the classroom and onto the athletic field where he mentored generations of young people.

Charles lived a life marked by faith, family, education, and a deep love for football. He was a husband, who honored and protected his wife, a father who helped shape the next generation, a grandfather whose memory will be cherished, and a coach and educator who invested in the lives of others.

Although his passing leaves an immeasurable void in the hearts of those who loved him, his legacy will continue through his family, his former students, his athletes, and everyone who was fortunate enough to know him. Charles was affectionately referred by many as 'Charlie' or "Coach'.

His life reminds us that a person’s true legacy is not measured only by the accomplishments they achieve, but by the lives they touch and the love they leave behind.

He was preceded in death by his father, Clarence Hall, Sr.; three brothers Murray L. Hall, Cedric P. Hall, and Carl N. Hall.

He leaves to cherish his memories, his wife, Elma Corine Davis Hall; two sons, Patrick L. (Shenika) Charles of Knoxville, TN and Dorian J. Hall, Sr. of Chalmette, LA; mother, Orelia Hall of Lake Charles, LA; sister, Edna H. Wiley of Lake Charles, LA; brothers, Clarence (Mary) Hall, Jr. of Cypress, CA and Michael (Janet) Hall of San Clemente, CA; sister-in-law, Sybil B. Hall of Lafayette, LA; grandchildren, Daenerys Charles, Briseis Charles, Dorian J. Hall, Jr. and Charlee Hall; along with a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

He also leaves to cherish his memory, his close friends, Rev. Allen Collins, John Washington, and Wyatt Washington, whose friendship were a true blessing throughout his life.

Rest well, Charles Hall. Your work here is done.
