Clifton "Shorty" Lewis, 88, passed away on September 30, 2012. He was born on February 17, 1924 in Gold Dust, Louisiana, to the late Jack and Mary Lou Atilee Lewis. He eventually moved to Lake Charles where he met and married the love of his life, Bernice Francis on October 7, 1949. They raised six children and served as surrogate parents to many others. "Cliff" retired from Citgo Refinery in 1994 after 46 years of service. He also served in World War II and was a Legionnaire with American Legion Post 551 for 50 years. He is survived by his wife, Bernice Francis Lewis, four daughters, Vickie (Kenny) Kennerson, Deridre (Melvin) Simien, Bridgett (James) Williams all of Lake Charles, LA, Vallarie (Wendell) Woods of Baton Rouge, LA; two sons, Lee Gilbert (Janella) and Clifton (Vanessa) all of Lake Charles, one foster son, Thomas (Frankie) Adams of Carlyss, LA; 23 grandchildren, 43 great grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild, and a host of relatives and friends. Clifton was preceded in death by his parents Jack and Mary Lou Lewis; four sisters; Ora Lee Johnson, Alice Stagg, Mary Joseph, and Belva Leday; one grandson; Jonathan Lewis, and one granddaughter; Payton Griffin.
