Obituary

Dalton Trahan, beloved son, husband, father, and uncle was born on January 25, 1914, in Abbeville, Louisiana. He was the fifth child of six children born to the late Leonard and Olivia Williams Trahan. His three brothers and two sisters preceded him death. He departed this life at the age of 92 on Tuesday, February 28, 2006.

Dalton Trahan joined Georgia Lee Hayes in the bond of Holy Matrimony on May 9, 1936, and they treated each other like king and queen for almost 70 years. They were the parents of one son, Matthew Darrel Trahan who God called home as an infant. Not having any other children did not affect their love for children. In fact, their love for children only grew stronger. God, therefore, led the couple to become foster parents to Dorothy Jean, Emily, Martinetta, Josephine, and Irene. They also become the legal parents of Pamela Ortiz through adoption.

Dalton was a carpenter who not only used his skill to provide for his family, but also to better the lives of persons in need. He enjoyed working in his yard and maintained a garden until a second stroke and weak legs challenged his stability.

Dalton joined the Immaculate Heart of Mary, Council #141 Knights of Saint Peter Claver in 1941, and served as Grand Knight of the Third Degree from 1972-1975 and received an Award for Appreciation in 1975 and 1976. He was then promoted to Fourth Degree and served as Faithful Captain of the Vernon W. Joseph Assembly #22 from 1977 to 1983 and received a Superb Service Award in 1981 and the Man of the Year Award in 1983. He then served as Faithful Navigator from 1984 to 1987 and received two Good Neighbor Awards. He was actively involved in all the activities of the Council and the Assembly until a stroke affected his health.

He served Immaculate Heart parish as an usher for more than 50 years, received the Outstanding Service & Dedication Award in 1970 and served as Vice President. He served as President of the Holy Name Society and President and Treasurer of the Southwest Central Committee.

He served the Lake Charles community as a Deputy Sheriff for approximately six years and served his country in the United States Navy.

Dalton Trahan will be greatly missed by numerous persons who were blessed to know him. His life will be forever cherished in the hearts of his loving wife, Georgia Lee Trahan; adopted daughter Pamela Ortiz, sister-in-law, Alberta Miller; brother-in-law, Charles Oliver Hayes; brother-in-law Rosco Young; and a host of nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
