Damon Eugene James was born to Eugene and Yolanda James on September 28, 1976, in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Damon was baptized at an early age at Asia Baptist Church in New Orleans, Louisiana, under the leadership of Rev. Zebedee Bridges. While there, he was active in the church choir and Sunday School classes.
Later on in years, Damon was accredited by being nominated for "Who's Who Among American Students" for four consecutive years. He was introduced into society by the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority. While in high school, he attended Southern University in New Orleans, Louisiana with the Upward Bound Tutorial Program. He graduated from McDonough 35 High School in New Orleans, Louisiana. Shortly after graduation, Damon enlisted into the United States Army, and was stationed at the Joint Readiness Training Center (JRTC) at Fort Polk, Louisiana.
During his tenure at Fort Polk, Louisiana, Damon met his life-long companion and loving wife, the former Miss Renita Lynn Payne. They were united in marriage on January 29, 1997. Twin sons were born from their union, Damani Ronet' James and Amani Gene' James.
Damon was preceded in death by his father, Mr. Eugene James, Jr.; his grandfather, Mr. Eugene James, Sr.; and his step-grandfather, Rev. Shelvia Smith; his great grandmothers, Ms. Georgia Phillips and Ms. Ernestine Jones; his grandmothers, Ms. Georgia Phillips James Smith and Ms. Francis Robinson; his godmother and aunt, Ms. Kathleen Jones, and a first cousin, Mr. Jerry Johnson.
In his passing, Damon leaves to mourn his memories, his devoted and loving wife, Ms. Renita L. (Payne) James, twin sons, Damani Ronet' James and Amani Gene' James. He leaves his mother, Ms. Yolanda Robinson James Kelly; his godfather and uncle, Mr. Rogers (Barbara) James, and one godson, Demareon Payne.
He also leaves his father and mother-in-law, Walter and Retha Payne, Jr. of DeQuincy, Louisiana; three sisters in law, Bridgette Payne, LeQuita (Elton) LeDay; and Dee-Dee (Preston) Chenier; three brothers in law, Charles Payne, Walter L. Payne III, and Howard Carl Payne.
His memories will also be treasured by a family of strong aunts – Margie (David) Robinson-Green; Ernestine (Lucien) Payne, Joanne (Leon) Hebrard; Theresa (Norman) Henry, and Wanda Womack (Michael James). Damon also has a host of uncles – John Robinson, Oliver Robinson, David Robinson, DeWayne Robinson, Darrell Poullard, and Leonard Jones, Sr. Along with two step-sisters, Alicia Kelly, and Cassandra (Quinton) Kelly Collings.
Lastly, but certain not least, Damon leaves a host of other relatives and old and new friends.
