IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Dwight "Tootie"
Wayne Palmer
September 20, 1948 – January 24, 2024
In Lake Charles, LA on January 24, 2024, Dwight Palmer, at the age of 75, went Home to be with our Lord and Savior. Affectionately called "Tootie", he was a lively man who was known for his gift of gab. Dwight was born on September 20, 1948 in Lake Charles, LA, and his parents were Annie Mae Breaux and Tom "Dook" Palmer. Annie Mae later married Butler Rious in 1952, and "Tootie" then formed a relationship with his new stepfather. As the eldest child, Dwight relished in being the big brother to his younger siblings: Darryl, Delbert, Darcy, Damon, Darrin, the baby brother of the bunch, and DeAndrea, the beloved baby sister of the bunch.
Dwight was christened as an infant at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, and he was raised in a strong Christian home. In his younger years, "Tootie" attended Second Ward School. As a teenager, one of his nicknames was the "Brownsville Gangsta" as he was known for always being ready and willing to defend himself and to also protect his family members. Dwight was a true lover of dogs, and another nickname of his was "Tootie Tootie the Dog Man".
After graduating from W. O. Boston High School in 1966, Dwight moved to San Francisco, California and this is where he met the woman he would go on to marry, Bobbie Palmer. Together, Dwight and Bobbie raised three sons: Jessie Hunt, Ronnell Hunt Jr, and James Hunt. During his years in California, Dwight was employed by Greyhound where he was a bus driver for many years and then by Pacific Bell as an Installer Repairman until retirement.
Although he was not a degreed man, Dwight was a student of life and during his time on earth he surely did a lot of living - living which he had thoroughly enjoyed. Dwight always carried fond memories of his life in California, and he would regularly share stories with relatives about his "heyday years" while living there. Highly opinionated, "Tootie" enjoyed discussing, sometimes even debating, many different topics with others and he was known for sticking to his thoughts and beliefs to the very end.
Dwight always carried an intense love and respect for his mother, grandmother, and his aunties – his mother's five sisters. It was once said when he had purchased his very first car, he was so excited because then he'd be able to drive his beloved grandmother, Mom Breaux, to the grocery store and that she would never again have to worry about getting there. His desire was to make his family proud and to offer any kind of assistance to them. He was known to his family and friends as a Jack of All Trades and Master of None. He would work on their cars, electrical problems, and just about anything that he could research to resolve the issue.
Dwight will be missed by his brothers: Delbert (Helen), Darcy, Damon, and Darrin (Felecia); his former wife and close friend, Bobbie; his sons: Jessie, Ronnell, and James; his sister-in-law Margaret (Darryl); 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews, and an extended clan of tightly knit cousins.
"Tootie" is now with his mother, father, stepfather, his brother Darryl, his sister DeAndrea, his beloved grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins. His family will forever cherish his memory while smiling and knowing that "Tootie" is currently in heaven still doing what he always did best: talking a mile a minute while fussing, complaining, laughing loudly, and being highly entertaining.
