Rev. Eddie Bruce Alfred, Sr., 78, departed this life on Sunday, February 18, 2018, at Christus St. Patrick Hospital in Lake Charles, La. He was born January 27, 1940, to Roosevelt and Mable Allison Alfred in Fenton, La. He received Christ at an early age when he was baptized at Greater St. Joseph Baptist Church in Fenton, La. He later accepted his calling and was ordained as a licensed minister of the gospel. He served as associate minister under the leadership of Rev. C.S. Keyes at Greater St. Joseph where later in life was installed as Pastor for many years. He then re-established New Rose Hill Baptist Church where he served as Pastor and overseer. He then rejoined Greater St. Joseph and was a faithful member under the leadership of his Godson, Pastor Arnold D. Wykoff until 2016. At the end of 2016, he became a member of Greater First Baptist Church in Kinder, La., under the leadership of his son, Eddie B. Alfred, Jr., until the time of his death.
He attended Carver and Katie B. Thomas High Schools. He worked on a farm for a short period of time and then worked at Lone Star Construction Company. He later started his own brick mason company until he retired. He also served eight terms as Alderman of the Village of Fenton, La. In July, 1962, he was united in matrimony to Shirley Ruth Colmane and to this union two sons were born. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Shirley; his parents, Roosevelt and Mable Alfred; four brothers, Calvin, Babe Ray, Benjamin and Hayward; two sisters, Bernice Hale and Lurdy Alfred.
He leaves to cherish his memories, two sons, Brady (Sandra Gail) Alfred, of Lake Charles, La., and Mayor/Pastor Eddie (Sandra Goodly) Alfred, Jr., of Fenton, La., three brothers, Luther (Montrey) Alfred, Melvin (Chelsea) Alfred of Fenton, La., and Earlvin (Regina) Alfred of Lafayette, La; one sister, Blanche Roland of Fenton, La., one godson, Pastor Arnold K. Wykoff of Iowa, La., and one goddaughter, Cindy Alfred Ergle of Austin, TX; five grandchildren, Shyra, Gabriel, Nikyia, Aryian, and Latrell; three great grandchildren, Mekhi, Mikah and Khyrie; a special niece, Kiara Alfred and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 24, 2018, at Greater First Baptist Church in Kinder, La., at 9:00 a.m., and funeral service at 11:00 a.m., Pastor Arnold K. Wykoff, officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery in Fenton, La., under the direction of King's Funeral Home.
