Obituary

On October 20, 1927, in the city of Ville Plate, Louisiana, Evelyn Pete was born to the parents, Eddie and Orelia Thomas.

Evelyn and Willie Pete were married for 75 years. In 1951 Willie and Evelyn moved from Ville Platte, La. to Lake Charles, La. where they raised their family.

Evelyn accepted Christ at an early age and was first a member of Mount Calvary Missionary Baptist Church and upon her death was a member of Messiah Missionary Baptist Church. All who knows Evenly Pete would describe her as a sweet, loving wife, a mother to be honored, a homemaker and a faithful servant of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. As a wife, she was the image of Genesis 2:18 "a help mate" to her husband. She experienced the pains of a military wife who waited for 2 years for her husband to return from WWII. Evelyn and her husband placed a high value on family. After working a full week, they would often travel on the weekend to visit extended family. They valued family and wanted their children to meet and know their extended family. In a way, they wanted to keep us grounded so we would never forget where we started and remember who we are. Evelyn created a home where all who entered felt the peace and presence of God. In her younger years, Evelyn was known for having a "Green Thumb". She could plant almost anything and it would not only grow, but it would thrive into a plant which others would admire and ask for a piece to plant in their own flower bed. Evelyn, joined by the hip with her husband, she lived her life with what seemed like two goals in mind. Goal One was getting her family into heaven and secondly, preparing her family to live right on this side of heaven.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Edward Thomas and Wilford Thomas, one Sister, Hannah Gastile and her eldest son, Willis Michael Pete.

On July 5th, 2017, Evelyn Pete was peacefully called home to be with the Lord and Savior. She leave to cherish her memory, a loving and devoted husband, Willie Pete, son, Raymond Pete (Moss Bluff, La), Daughter, Clara Durousseau (Davis) Lake Charles, La, Son, Felton Pete, Houston, Tx, Daughter, Beverly Malveaux (Arnold) Lake Charles, La, son, Irvin Pete (Rachel) Kansas City, Mo, Daughter-In-Love, Velma Pete. She also leave to cherish a host of grandkids, great grandkids, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, July 15, 2017, at 9:00 a.m., and funeral service at 11:00 a.m., at Messiah Missionary Baptist Church, Pastor Robert Owens, officiating. Burial will be in Orange Grove Graceland Cemetery under the direction of King's Funeral Home.
