Obituary

Freeman Rodney Evans, 63,  of Cape Coral, Florida passed away on August 18, 2023.  He was born on January 1, 1960, to the late Samuel Evans Jr. and Loritha Richard Evans in Lake Charles, Louisiana.  He attended W.O. Boston High where he was known for being a multi-athlete in football, basketball, and track. In May of 1978, he graduated from W.O. Boston High School.

He met and fell in love with his beautiful wife, Zania (daughter of Jeffery Moore and Mattie Jean Patton) in 1988.  In 1989, he and Zania "Kitty" relocated to Fort Myers, Florida to start anew.  In October of 1999, Freeman and Kitty became one in Holy Matrimony.  Although they have been married for 24 years, they have been together for 35 years.

As a boat technician, Freeman developed relationships and connections with many people from all walks of life.  He started his career at Fort Myers Yacht in Fort Myers, Florida.  Next, he took his talents and eyes for detail to Punta Gorda Marina where he worked for over 20 years.   His final work home was Diversified Yacht Services where he worked for the past 11 years.   Because of his strong work ethic, commitment to quality service, and attention to detail, he thrived wherever he worked.

Freeman enjoyed dancing, playing dominoes, and having a good time with family and friends.  He did not know a stranger.  He made everyone in his life feel special and valued.  Most people would describe him as the "life of the party."  Freeman will be deeply missed by his friends, family, and all who knew him.

His life will forever be cherished in the lives of his children: Freeman (Rachelle) Roberts, Shaquilla (Jesse) Roberts, Magan (Nicholas) Harrell, Diondra (Clarence) Evans-Daniel, and Jeffery (Corte) Evans. Freeman also leaves behind 10 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren; brothers David Evans and Craig Evans; sister Monica Evans; brother-in-laws  Michael Duffey, Gregory Moore, and Howard Moore; a host of devoted aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, Godchildren, and friends.

A funeral service is scheduled for 11:00 am on September 9, 2023, at Mount Calvary Baptist Church which is located at: 300 N Blake St, Lake Charles, LA 70601. Rev. Elmore Garner will officiate.  In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to the GoFundMe to help pay for the costs of the funeral service.
