The Life and Legacy of
Harold Joseph Jones, Sr.
The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and they staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever. Psalm 23
Harold Joseph Jones, Sr was born February 20, 1956, to Albert Jones and Laura Mayo Jones in Lake Charles, LA. He was the first of three children. Long awaited. Momma and Daddy's dream come true!! He arrived! After five years of praying and trying to have a child, he made his entrance.
He was a 1975 graduate of W.O. Boston High School. After graduation, Harold went to work for Joe Brown Janitorial Service where he worked faithfully for 17 years. Later, he began his lifelong career with the City of Lake Charles Transit Department. Harold was well known as the bus driver for the city of Lake Charles where he never met a stranger. His bus route was the one that was always on time! He took pride in the timeliness of his routes! Harold retired as a supervisor of the Transit Department after working 30-plus years.
In 1980 Harold met the love of his life, Linda Ann Garrick, while driving the city bus. Linda proudly reminds everyone that she knew Harold was going to be her husband after her very first bus ride. Little did he know that would come true. On July 11, 1981, they were united in holy matrimony and to this union, three children were born.
Harold started his Christian journey at Warren United Methodist Church. However, his wife and children were Catholic, and he desired that his family attend church together, so he converted to the Catholic faith. He became a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church.
Harold leaves a legacy of love and memories with his wife, Linda Garrick Jones of 43 years; son, Harold Joseph Jones, Jr. of Lake Charles; daughter, Monique Latricia Jones (Joseph Alfred) of Lake Charles; three grandchildren, Jayden, Crista Bella, and Cameron; one beloved sister, Janice Jones Perkins (Danny Towner) of Lake Charles; two sisters-in-law, Brenda M. Garrick and Florence Pitre Jones both of Lake Charles; three Godchildren, Chance Jones, Quinta Durgan, and Andrea Anderson; and a host of cousins, nieces, and nephews.
When the heavenly doors opened, Jesus and those who preceded Harold in death were there to greet him: his parents, Albert and Laura Mayo Jones; paternal grandparents, Sterling Jones and Mary Leday; maternal grandparents, Emile and Aria (Milburn) Mayo; mother-in-law, Sylvia Goodwin; daughter, ShaCrista Nicole Jones; brother, Michael Lee Jones; nephew, Christopher Guillory; great nephew, Noah Paul Stamps; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Harold was greatly loved, and he will be dearly missed. His legacy will live forever.
