Herbert Lafanette , 80, departed this life on Sunday, December 18, 2016, at Lake Charles Memorial Hospital surrounded by his family in Lake Charles, LA. He was born on September 21, 1936, to Dave and Clara Fobbs Lafanette in Lake Charles, LA.

He worked for many years at Southern Pacific Railroad until his retirement as a truck driver. He was also a school crossing guard with the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff Department. He loved fishing, hunting, working in his yard and on his lawn mower. He enjoyed sitting outside, talking and visiting with everyone in the neighborhood.

He leaves to cherish his memories, his loving wife of 46 years, Mary Ann Lafanette; his children, Juanita Francis Bell (Jerry), Stacey Lafanette, Christa Lafanette, Margaret Lafanette Celestine, Nicholas Lafanette and Darrin Lafanette; three sisters, Dorothy Bell Tyler, Florence Hawkins, and Doris Bell Caston; eight grandchildren, Jerald Francis, Domnic Francis, Michaela Lafanette, Shonta Lafanette, Dajona Lafanette, Micheal Boutte, Jr., Diamonta Lafanette and Jasya Green; four great grandchildren, Brelon Brown, Jamyri Francis, Jazari Francis, Alayha Francis, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dave and Clara Lafanette; two brothers, Joseph Lafanette and Ernest Lafanette; three sisters, Daisy Mae Lafanette, Grace Lafanette and Marie Lafanette Jones and one son, Herbert David Lafanette and one son-in-law, Marcus Celestine

Visitation will be held on Friday, December 30, 2016, at 9:00 a.m., and funeral service at 11:00 a.m. at King's Funeral Home, Pastor Nathaniel Wilson, Sr. and Pastor Roland Mouton, Jr., officiating. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Mausoleum under the direction of King's Funeral Home.
