Howard Burks, 86, passed away on Thursday, August 9, 2012 in his residence. Howard was born on September 9, 1925 to the late Homer and Eunice Hammock Burks in Ruston, LA. Howard joined The United States Army at a very young age, he served 21 years and retired in 1964. Howard then went to work for The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) where he retired with an additional 34 years of service, in 1981. He worked for Northrop Grumman for many years until became a Calcasieu Sheriff Officer and retired in February of 2010. An active Commander at American Legion Post #551 from 1994 to 1998. Those left to cherish his memories are his wife and best friend of 35 years; Oneta Boyer Burks; one brother; Marvin Burks of Monroe, LA; four sons; Micheal (Faye) Burks of Alexandria, LA, Stephen (Cheryl) Burks of Jonesboro, LA, Mark (Bonnie) Burks of Monroe, LA, Stacy (Ontavia) Burks of Garling, TX; one daughter; Kristy (Marvin) Lee of Dallas, TX; two step daughter; France Berry of Lake Charles, LA and Barbara Jacob of San Jose, CA; one step-son; Donald Jacob of San Jose, CA; 32 grandchildren, 56 great-grandchildren, and 8 great-great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; Homer and Eunice Burks; one daughter; Karen Burks Watkins; one step-son; Landry Jacob, Jr.
