Janie Mitchell Redmon , 80 was called home Thursday, December 7, 2017, in her home surrounded by family. She was born on April 23, 1937, in Thornwell, LA to the late Rodney, Sr. and Augustine Nixon. She later moved to Beaumont, TX where she met and married her late husband Julius Mitchell and to this union 4 children were born. Janie was a retired License Vocational Nurse for 35 years. She loved spending time with her family especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all.
She was an active member of Cathedral of Faith Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. Hearnest Arvie and later Rev. Arthur Cullivan. She was a member of the Deaconess Ministry and became the Deaconess Director. She also was a member of the Usher's Ministry, Mission Ministry and past President of the City-Wide Deaconess.
Living with many sweet memories are her children, Janice (Irvin) Isbell of Athens, AL, Julius (Jo Ann) Mitchell of Grand Prairie, TX, Julie Mitchell Jackson Hursey of Lake Charles, LA and Jeanette (Rodney) Lamb, Sr. of Beaumont, TX; three brothers, Felix (Ester) Nixon, Donald (Mary Alice) Nixon, Isaiah Nixon, Sr.; one sister, Thelma (Mack) English; 13 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Rodney and Augustine Nixon, Sr., her husband, Leo Redmon; two brothers, Abraham Nixon and Rodney Nixon, Jr., three sisters, Stella Nixon, Virgie Nixon, and Betty Nixon.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 16, 2017 at 9:00 a.m. and funeral service at 11:00 a.m. at Cathedral of Faith Baptist Church, Rev. Arthur Cullivan, officiating. Burial will follow at Community Cemeteries, Inc., 1995 Gill St, Beaumont, TX, under the direction of King's Funeral Home.
