September 10, 1939 – March 27, 2016
Jessie Rayne Gladney entered into eternal rest on Sunday, March 27, 2016, at her granddaughter's home in Humble, TX. She was born in Ville Platte, LA, to the late Felton Joseph and Estelle Joseph Cartwright.
Jessie accepted Christ at an early age under the leadership of the late Pastor Nathaniel P. Jones at Zion Tabernacle Baptist Church in Lake Charles, LA. She later united with New Covenant Faith Baptist Church of Lake Charles, LA, pastored by Rev. Jimmy R. Stevens, where she was a faithful member and a Sunday school teacher for Women's Classroom B. She was employed by Lake Charles Care Center for many years and she later worked for Big Brothers Big Sisters Foster Grandparents Program.
Passionate about life, Jessie placed great value on God, family, honor and integrity. She gave of herself unselfishly and had a genuine concern for the care of others. She loved everyone and everyone who had the pleasure of meeting her loved her. Her spirit was filled with love, joy and faith. She was a fighter and will forever be remembered.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Roosevelt Gladney; her sister, Willie Dean Tucker and her grandson, Derrick Todd Gladney-Prophet.
She is survived by two children, Pamela Gladney-Fontenot (LD) of Humble, TX and Chad Gladney of Lake Charles, LA, along with two nephews she raised, Elsworth Coleman, III, of Pasadena, TX and Craig Coleman of Houston, TX; two sisters, Mary Nell Joseph and Annie Williams Fontenot (Clarence) of Lake Charles, LA; six grandchildren, Tamara Gladney-Prophet, Akia Bernard, Kayla Leday, Chade' Gladney, Chadlyn Gladney and Daniel Gladney; nine great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 2, 2016, at 12:00 p.m., and funeral service at 2:00 p.m., at New Covenant Faith Baptist Church, with Rev. Jimmy Stevens officiating. Burial will be in Combre Memorial Park under the direction of King's Funeral Home.
