Joanna Fontenot, 82, departed this life on Thursday, April 26, 2018, at her residence in Lake Charles, La. She was born on August 23, 1935, to the late Alcin Tezeno and Earnestine Henry Tezeno in Ville Platte, La. She worked for the Calcasieu Parish School Board as a cafeteria manager at T. H. Watkins Elementary until her retirement. She was a long-time member of Mount Olive Baptist Church where she sang in the choir and participated in many other ministries. She loved to talk and visit with friends and cook for her family.

She leaves to cherish her memories her children, Shelvin Mouton and Linda Fontenot both of Lake Charles, La; Mary Anderson, who was a like a daughter to her; two sisters, Viola Davis of Lake Charles, La., and Grace Fontenot of LaMarque, Tx; four grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, one great great grandchild, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Alcin and Earnestine Tezeno; her husband, Manuel Fontenot; one son, Manuel Glenn Fontenot; one grandson, Corey Fontenot; two sisters, Gladys Edwards and Hilda Williams and five brothers, Lester, Clifford, Dillard, Kerman and Earnest Tezeno.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 5, 2018, at 9:00 a.m., and funeral service at 11:00 a.m., at Mount Olive Baptist Church, Rev. Braylon Harris, officiating. Burial will follow in Combre Memorial Park under the direction of King's Funeral Home.
