Sergeant Joseph Lee "Joe Joe" Adams , 73, was born in Eunice, Louisiana, on July 5, 1943 to Roosevelt Adams and Virginia Ceasar Adams. He departed this world peacefully at Landmark of Lake Charles in Lake Charles, LA on August 19, 2016.
He moved to Sulphur at the age of 9 and attended the Sulphur Colored Elementary School. Sgt. Adams attended secondary school at Mossville High where he graduated in 1963. While at Mossville High, Sgt. Adams was an all-around athlete. He played football, basketball, and ran track.
After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army and was assigned to service in Munich, Germany as a Private. He later volunteered to fight for his country in the Vietnam War, where he was severely injured and was retired with full honors at the age of 27. Sgt. Adams was awarded the Purple Heart, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Military Medal, and received an Army Marksman Badge and Army Rifle Qualification Bar. He was a proud lifetime member of the Disabled Veterans of America.
He accepted Christ in his life at an early age and was a member of Macedonia Church of God in Christ in Sulphur, Louisiana where he once served as treasurer, deacon, and sang in the choir.
He was a brave and loyal soldier, as well as a patient and loving husband, father, and grandfather. Sgt. Adams is survived by his wife of 32 years, Lois Ann Carrier Adams; daughters, Rhonda Esclovon and Kayla (Lawayne) Allison; grandsons, Marcus Esclovon and Michael Allison; granddaughters, Krisshatta (Gavin) Turner, Amilya Allison, Marissa (Gabe) Hayek, and Marquisha (Joshua) Holton; and ten great-grandchildren all of Lake Charles, Louisiana; one brother, Willie Moses Adams of Sulphur, Louisiana; and a host of family and friends.
Sgt. Adams is preceded in death by his son, Joseph Adams and daughter, Yulanda Esclovon; parents, Roosevelt and Virginia Adams; four sisters, Ruby Mae Henry, Arlene Beans, Myrtle Adams, and Carla Adams; and three brothers, Berkman Adams, Nolton Ray Adams, and Roosevelt Adams.
Visitation will be held at Macedonia Church of God in Christ on Saturday, August 27, 2016 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., with the funeral immediately following. Reverend Martin Ceasar will officiate the services. Burial will be in Perkins Cemetery, Westlake, LA, under the direction of King's Funeral Home.
