IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Joseph Wordy
Gallien, Sr.
September 17, 1937 – October 1, 2024
Joseph "Wordy" Gallien, Sr . was born September 17, 1937, in Lawtell, Louisiana. He was the eldest of eight sons born to the late Jack and Angelle (Green) Gallien. After the passing of his parents, he, along with his former wife Willie Mae Chenier and adopted brother Leroy "Topee"Lewis, took guardianship of his four youngest siblings. A hardworking man, Wordy believed in providing for his family and those in need. He balanced working the family farm and a full-time construction job, supported by Willie Mae, "Topee," his siblings, and his two sons. In 1980, he moved to Lake Charles, Louisiana, where he spent most of his career. After retiring from PPG Industries in 1999, he enjoyed a peaceful retirement until his passing. Wordy had a smile that would light up a room and a huge heart filled with love for anyone in need. He will be remembered as one of the best-dressed men in Southwest Louisiana, always sharp from head to toe. He wasn't flashy, but extremely classy.
The Gallien family extends their heartfelt thanks for the prayers and support during this difficult time. Wordy is survived by his children Donald Gallien, Joseph W. Gallien, Jr. (Wendy), Mona K. Powell (Marvin, III); grandchildren Ekhara (Freeman) Sturkey (Arnold), Donnanesia Gallien, Layla Gallien, Miles Gallien, Lance Gallien, Morgan Powell, Marvin "Chase" Powell, IV; great grandchildren Neveah Rye, Jamieun Broussard, Jr., Fantasia Hall, Tregon Sturkey, Tatum Sturkey, Tyrese Sturkey; brothers Hubert Gallien, Leoran Gallien, Lorell Gallien, Charles Gallien, Sr., and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
