Joseph Larry Lavergne, Sr., 62, departed this life on Tuesday, January 10, 2017, at his residence in Moss Bluff, LA. He was born October 10, 1954, to the late Hillman Lavergne and Irene Lavergne in Lake Charles, LA.

He worked all his life in the construction field as a cement finisher until he became disabled. He was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church and an active member of ACORN, Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, and would travel the states with the organization. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and enjoyed cutting his grass and keeping his yard real neat.

He leaves to cherish his memories, one son, Joseph Larry Lavergne, Jr., (Raynekia) and one step-daughter, Nakema Marshall; four sisters, Denise Gradney (Wilfred), Matilda Leblanc, Sandra Stevens and Susan Jones (Jeffery); two grandchildren, Michael Lavergne and Aidan Lavergne; five step-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Hillman and Irene Lavergne.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 21, 2017, at 11:00 a.m., at King's Funeral Home and funeral service at 1:00 p.m., at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Rev. V. Wayne Lebleu, officiating. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery under the direction of King's Funeral Home.
