Joseph Beauford Garrick was born on February 10, 1941 to the union of the late Willie T. Garrick and Alma Babineaux Garrick in Opelousas, Louisiana.
He departed this life on Wednesday, August 11, 2010 in a local hospital after a brief illness.
He was christened in Holy Family Catholic Church in Lawtel, Louisiana. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Lake Charles, Louisiana and St. John Bosco Catholic Church in Westlake, Louisiana. He later joined Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Mossville, Louisiana. He attended Mossville High School.
He was employed by Cagle Chevrolet and F & F Wireline Services for many years. Beauford loved to dance, loved baseball and was a volunteer coach of a woman's softball team for many years in the Mossville Community. Beauford loved all people and never met a stranger.
He leaves to cherish his memories: his devoted mother, Alma B. Garrick, two sisters, Sandra (Edward) Mason, Lake Charles, Louisiana; and Wanda Ann Garrick Cooper of Westlake, Louisiana; one son, Michael Duffey of Lake Charles, Louisiana; one daughter, Alma Cassandra Truitt of Eunice, Louisiana; one granddaughter, Alyssa Daniels of Lake Charles, Louisiana; one nephew, Corey (Denise) Mason of San Diego, California; niece,
Sheila Scott (Joel) Avent of Woodbridge, Virgina; one great niece, Carrie D. Mason; three great nephews, Charednick Williams of San Diego, California, Jaylen Avent and Kinte Johnson of Woodbridge, Virgina; and one aunt, Virgin Whitfield of Lake Charles, Louisiana.; three uncles, Sylvester Garrick of Opelousas, Louisiana, Anthony Garrick of Lafayette, Louisiana and Roland Garrick of Lake Charles, Louisiana; one aunt, Eva Garrick of Church Point, Louisiana; one aunt, Anna Garrick of Orange, Texas, a host of relatives and lifelong friends from the Mossville Community.
He was preceded in death by his loving father, Willie T. Garrick and his sister, Manna Jean Guidry; his uncles and aunts, Sidney (Virgie) Garrick; Joseph (Constance) Garrick; Antoine (Edolia) Bellard; Felician Bellard; George Whitfield, Ora Garrick, Mitchell Garrick; three aunts, Irene and Lena Garrick, and Lorena Sonnier.
Visitation will be held on Monday, August 16, 2010, at 9:00 a.m., at King's Funeral Home and a second viewing at 11:30 a.m., at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church. Funeral service will follow immediately after at 1:00 p.m., with burial in Perkins Cemetery under the direction of King's Funeral Home.
