Obituary

Leon Raymond, Jr., "Mooney" gained his heavenly wings on September 2, 2018, surrounded by his family at Houston Methodist Hospital.

Leon, 72, was born January 9, 1946, to the late Annie Bailey and Leon Raymond, Sr., in Lake Charles, LA. He was a 1965 graduate of W. O. Boston High School. He later decided to serve his country and joined the Navy, serving four years. In 1968, he married his high school sweetheart, Catherine Butler. To this union, three children were born.

He was employed at W. R. Grace for 38 years until his retirement. He accepted Christ at Live Oak Baptist Church and later joined Truelight Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Alvin Noel. He served on the hospitality and cooking committee. He especially enjoyed cooking for the church. He served until his health issues would not allow him.

He was a family man who never met a stranger. He enjoyed having his family and extended family over everyday if possible. His passion was cooking and his specialty that everyone gathered for was his famous spaghetti. He loved every sport possible and supported his children and grandchildren in any sport they participated in. He was our biggest fan and never missed a sporting event. He enjoyed family time because his heart was his family. His grandchildren knew he was their biggest supporter in sports and education. He enjoyed his wife of 50 years and his good friend, Charles Wilson, of 30 plus years.

He leaves to treasure his memories, his loving wife and caregiver, Catherine Raymond; his daughters, Francine (Jerry) Antoine, Janene (Kevin) Guillory all of Lake Charles, LA, and three additional daughters he took on to love as his own, Anna Darlene Smith, Tiffany Duhon Johnson and Sheryl (Derrick) Lartigue Morris of Lake Charles, LA; his grandchildren, Hanson Blake Raymond, Kamyrn Antoine, Jada Guillory, Kavin Guillory, Bailey Raymond, Jayvin Guillory, Kayden Antoine, Rayleigh Guillory, Morgan Raymond, India Antoine and Joshua Henderson; his siblings, Jack (Mable) Bailey of Moss Bluff, LA, Gloria (Moses) Martin of Colorado Springs, and a host of nieces, nephews, in-laws, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leon Raymond, Sr., and Annie Bailey; one son, Leon Raymond (Lil Ray), III; one grandson, Keithlynn Guillory and four siblings, Georgiana Mitchell, Lee Jack Bailey, John Bailey and Lovie Joyce Bailey.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 15, 2018, at 9:00 a.m., and funeral service at 11:00 a.m., at Truelight Baptist Church, Rev. Alvin Noel officiating. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery under the direction of King's Funeral Home.
