Obituary

Leon Edward "Bear" Larce Sr. departed this life on Sunday, July 13, 2014 at the age of 79. He was born to the union of Willie and Betty Larce on September 26, 1934 in Saint Joseph, Louisiana. He attended and graduated from Booker T. Washington High School. In 1952 Leon achieved Grambling State Football College history by being named the 2nd time Football All American. In 1955 he led Grambling State to an undefeated season. After graduation Leon moved to Lake Charles and began his coaching career working many years at Washington High School and Reynard Middle School in shaping, motivating and inspiring the lives of young people. Many of his students won athletic and academic scholarships and several played on a professional level. He was affectionately called" Coach." He later transitioned his career into the Refinery Industry where he retired from Citgo Refinery. Coach Larce leave to mourn his daughters; LaShuane (Ojay) Holmes of CA; Betty McBride Larce and Lydia Lenora Larce both of Lake Charles, LA; 2 sons; Leon Edward (Stacy) Larce, Jr., Beau W. (Sheila) Larce both of Lake Charels, LA., his twin brother William Larce Sr. of New Orleans,LA., a very special friend, Theresa Holmes of Lake Charles, LA.; and his best friend Ozie Rideaux of many years. 18 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; Willie and Betty Larce of New Orleans, La and 1 sister; Lydia Washington Larce of New Orleans, LA.
