Obituary

Lori Elise Cooper was called home to be with God on November 5, 2025, at the tender age of 39.   Lori was born to Gary Ronald Cooper and Wanda Ann Garrick Cooper on February 10, 1986, in Houston, Texas.  There are no words to say what a miracle her birth was to our lives.  Today, my heart aches with so much pain because of the loss of my only biological child - An angel above, knowing there is light shining down so bright on me.

Lori attained her high school diploma from Northwestern Community College. She was an accomplished Figure Ice Skater and International Jr. Golf Champion for St. Pius X High School. She attended McNeese State University and was a member of the Texas Southern University Golf Team.  Lori was remarkably successful under the most trying and difficult situations, and yet she achieved several certificates of accomplishment.  She managed to help many people and found several supporters who loved and believed in her dearly.

Lori leaves to cherish her memories and spirit forever with an undying love, her mother Wanda Ann Garrick Cooper King, her father Willie S. King Jr., with whom she gained a brother Willie III, and sisters: Anita, who predeceased her, Tamika, Mary and Shantel.

Also missing her is an incredible special uncle, Edward Mason Sr. (Pop), Uncle Greg, Aunt Joyce, and cousins: Sheila Scott Avent, Cory (Denise) Mason and family, and many other special cousins.

Along this life's journey we built a blended family that came to love her dearly: Aunt Sheryl Lang, god-brother Simon Williams, Dr. and Mrs. Larry (Yvonne) Martin, Bridghette Cole, Linda Ceaser, Gary and Sherry Citizen, Grace Smitherman, Joyce Miles, Margaret Waldon, Mildred Washington and Nekia Stewart.

She was preceded in death by her father Gary Ronald Cooper, her maternal grandparents, Willie T. and Alma Babineaux Garrick; her paternal grandparents, Edwin Ellis and Ruth Porche' Cooper;  her uncle Joseph Beauford Garrick; her aunts, Manna Jean Garrick Scott Guidry and Sandra Marie Garrick Mason; and her sister Anita King Tigner.

A celebration of Lori's life and funeral mass will be held on Saturday, November 15, at 1:30pm in St. Henry Catholic Church. A family visitation will be held prior, beginning at 11:30am until 1:00pm in King's Funeral Home Chapel. A Rosary will be held at 12:00 noon. Lori will be buried near her grandparents and uncle at Perkins Cemetery in Westlake, Louisiana, under the direction of King's Funeral Home.

SPECIAL THANKS -

The family would like to offer special thanks for the support and many prayers from all those who have been there for me for many years enduring this walk.  Ralph and Paula Edwards, there are no words to say how grateful Lori and I will forever be for your opening your doors and standing by us and accepting our family when we were just hanging on. Tae and Angel, thank you for giving Lori more time on earth with me. I thank so many others for all the prayers and support that held me up. - Wanda

To my darling daughter who fought to win the battle, I send my biggest hug up to Heaven as you walk through the gates with no more pain nor suffering. You will always be the joy of my life. Even when we didn't understand what was happening in our lives, we just closed our eyes, prayed and took a deep breath knowing we had each other and tried to understand God's plan and just prayed for mercy for him to get us through it. - Love you, Mommie

Thank you to our bearers of the casket who are entrusted to bring my baby girl to her final resting place:

Gone Too Soon

By Greg Daniels

Like a perfect spring morning, just before a beautiful flower begins to bloom, I realize a love that has gone too soon.

The sun still rises, gold upon the dew, but missing is the sight that matches my view.

A heart unwound before its prime, A stolen soul snatched away by time.

We planned the harvests, and mapped the distant street before we sleep, believed the future was assured for us we keep.

The clock still ticks, but time no longer flows, the way it did when your bright presence rose.

A sudden silence where your voice should be; A vacant chair will be reserved eternally. It wasn't meant to end on such a page, just turning to a brand new hopeful stage.

The time of years, now ripped apart, leaving this jagged emptiness in our heart. A phantom touch, a whisper on the breeze, a memory that brings us to our knees.

A love gone too soon, an angel that fell too fast; a bright, eternal echo that was meant to last. But always underneath the daily pace, will be the sharp knowledge of your missing face.

We will learn to cope with the memory, warm and true, and not just mourn the time we are missing with you. The sharpest edges of the cutting pain, will begin to soften, like the gentle rain.

To hope is knowing that the love you gave, is strength for tides that we must learn to brave. Not forgetting pain, but choosing to release, the fierce grip of despair and finding peace.

This love gone too soon is now a gentle hum; A source of strength for battles still to come. We heal by cherishing the love you have poured, and thank the heavens for the time adored.

We have reached the quiet hour where shadows start to blend, and see that love does not begin or truly never end.

This final verse gathers the echoes that we found, From grief's deep canyon to the hallowed, hopeful ground.

I will always remember as I look towards the heavens at the moon, the love I've lost, Lori gone too soon.
