The Lord is my Shepherd , I shall not want" Psalm 23:1 Mabel Lee Keyes Jones was born Thursday ,May 29, 1929, in rural Welsh, Louisiana, to the late Bailey and Julia Sigust Keyes. Her family moved to Fenton, Louisiana, where she resided until moving to Lake Charles to complete her high school education at Second Ward Colored High School . She became united in the Christian faith at an early age and became a member of Rose Hill BC, Fenton LA and St. Joseph BC in Fenton until moving her membership to Lake Charles, LA uniting with New Sunlight BC. She served as a deaconess, woman's home mission member and Sunday school student for many years at New Sunlight before chartering Bethel Metropolitan Baptist Fellowship of Lake Charles, LA in 1997. At Bethel, Mabel served as Ministry leader of the Deaconess, serving on the Ruth auxiliary of the Women's ministry and a member of the Women's Sunday school class and later general Sunday school. Mabel was employed at Lake Side Cleaners for many years before working for the David Parnell family as a housekeeper and eventually retiring from First National Bank of Lake Charles as a cafeteria worker. "Who can find a virtuous woman? For her price is far above rubies. The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil. She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life." Prov. 31:10-12. God's wisdom allowed Mabel to meet and eventually marry her husband of 58 years, Ivory James Jones. They were united on August 20, 1955, and to this union five children were born. An angel, Tony Anthony, ascended to Heaven prior to his parents' ascension. On Sunday, April 12, 2015, at 4:45 p.m., God called "Chick" home. Her departure, although unexpected, was peaceful and successful as she was delivered into HIS arms. Others preceded in death include her parents, two sisters Virginia Grace Wyckoff and Evelyn Ruth Hardman. Left to celebrate Mabel's victory in Christ are her sons Ivory (Joyce) Jones; Darrell, Sr.(Dianne) Jones ; and Wilbert Jones, all of Lake Charles; one daughter Julie Jones Butler (Rev. Jimmy) of Houston TX ; Brothers, Ret. Pastor Griffin (Annie Lee) Beaumont, TX; Minister Herbert Earl (JoAnn) Fenton, LA; sisters Letha B. Maryland and Minister Yvonne Geneva Wykoff of Lake Charles and Cora (Rev. Melton) Alfred of Jennings, LA; grandchildren Shawn (Trisha), Travis, Darrell, Jr. D'Andre, D'Shonda, and Jarius; 16 great-grandchildren and 2 godchildren Gilbert Jackson, Jr. and Jassaland Kelly-Demease of Lake Charles, LA as well as a host of in-laws, nieces, nephews, other family and friends. Funeral services for Mabel "Chick" Keyes Jones will be held on Saturday, April 18, 2015, at 11:00 a.m., visitation at 9:00 a.m., at Messiah Missionary Baptist Church, with Pastor Clyde Lewis officiating. Burial will follow in the Rose Hill cemetery in Fenton, LA, under the direction of King's Funeral Home.
