Obituary

Mary Lee Jenkins , affectionately known as "May" was born March 22, 1925 , in Lake Charles Louisiana. She was the youngest of four children born to Peter & Ella Deville. Her parents; two brothers, AJ and Earl; one sister, Edna and two nephews, Earl Jr. and Bryan preceded her in death.

She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her comfortable view of life was contagious and time spent in her presence was fun and lighthearted. She enjoyed cooking, watching detective mysteries, sitting outside and feeding her great-grandchildren. Her favorite foods were smothered Okra, Gumbo, Vegetable soup and Fried chicken.

She was united in marriage to Wilford "Pat" Jenkins on May 10, 1947. They recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary earlier this year. Together they were blessed with two children, Jimmie Jasmine and Gaye Jenkins.

She accepted Christ at a very early age and became a member of Starlight Baptist Church under the leadership and pastoral of the late Reverend Captain. She was a devoted Christian and remained faithful until her death. At the time of her death, under the leadership of Pastor Julian Woods, she held the oldest female membership. She was a former member of the Usher board, Mission department and Eastern Star.

Mary Lee passed peacefully Friday, September 28, 2007, at Christus St Patrick Hospital. She leaves to cherish her wonderful spirit, her husband Wilford Jenkins, two daughters, Jimmie Jasmine of Lake Charles, Louisiana and Gaye Nell Jenkins of Houston, Texas; two grandchildren, Marsha Joubert of Dallas, Texas, and Tonya Taylor of Houston, Texas; three great-grandchildren, Jazmin and Jaya Germon both of Dallas, Texas and Ja'Nya Taylor of Houston Texas; one nephew, Peter Deville of Lake Charles, Louisiana; two nieces, Karen and Charlotte Deville both Los Angeles.
