Mary Elizabeth Lewis was born to the late Henry Broussard and Sarah Johnson Broussard on July 25, 1925, in Sunset, LA.  She married the late Effery Lewis of Opelousas, LA and to this union was born eight children, Erma J. Lewis, Deloris Lewis, Betty Lewis, Shirley Lewis, Elizabeth Ann Lewis, Barbara J. Lewis, Effery Lewis, Jr., and Carl W. Lewis.

She was a member of Starlight Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Julian Woods in Lake Charles, LA and His Presence Christian Worship Center under the leadership of Pastor Felix Golden in Brentwood, CA.  She was baptized in the name of Jesus and received the spirit of the Holy Ghost.  She was a life-long resident of Lake Charles, LA prior to moving to Oakland, CA.  She was retired and on Saturday the 5 ^th day of June, 2021 she departed this life at the age of 95 in Manteca, CA.

Mary Elizabeth Lewis leaves to cherish her memory her seven remaining children Erma J. Lewis Hagger (Morris) in San Francisco, CA, Deloris Lewis Wyatt (Edward) in Patterson, CA, Betty Coleman (Larry) in Lafayette, LA, Shirley Green (Alfred) in Lake Charles, LA, Barbara J. Butler (Rick – deceased) in Brentwood, CA, Effery Lewis, Jr. (Veda) in Beaumont, TX, Carl W. Lewis (Arbria) in Lake Charles, LA, twenty-three grandchildren, twenty-four great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, her special family the Green family, and many, many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents Henry and Sarah Broussard; brothers, James Broussard, Joseph Broussard, Henry Broussard Jr., sisters, Helen Fiest, Annie Bell Rubit, Elvina Toliver, Celestine Rious; daughter, Elizabeth Ann Keeve; sons-in-law, Renaldo Keeve and Rick Butler and great-grandson, Carl Chandler.

Visitation and funeral will be Tuesday, June 29 ^th , 2021 at New Covenant Faith Baptist Church with Rev. Jimmy Stevens hosting and Pastor Julian Woods officiating.  The church is located at 2233 12 ^th St., Lake Charles, LA 70601.  Service times are 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. with interment immediately following at Community Cemetery in DeQuincy, LA.  Service and burial is under the direction of Kings Funeral Home of Lake Charles.
