Her journey began on June 29, 1936, in Plaisance, LA, in St. Landry Parish. Mayolia was the second child born to Curtis Perkins and Magnolia Madeline Antoine Perkins. The Lord called her from earthly toil to sweet rest on Saturday, December 23, 2017.

Mayolia was joined in matrimony to Melton Griffin, Sr., of Washington, LA. Five children were born to their union, Melton, Katherine, David, Carolyn Denise and Michael.

Sister Mayolia joined Greater Mount Zion Baptist Church at an early age. She served under the leadership of the late Frank Winder, the late Isaiah Buck and currently under Pastor Marvin Durgan. She served as a choir member and on the deaconess board. She remained active until her death.

Mayolia leaves to mourn her passing and cherish her memories, her children, Melton (Debra) Griffin, Jr., of LaPorte, TX, Katherine (Robert) Freeman of DeQuincy, LA, David (Lani) Griffin of Ruston, LA, Carolyn Denise Griffin of DeQuincy, LA, Michael (Barbara) Griffin of DeQuincy, LA; eight grandchildren, Chris Griffin, Parish Griffin, Tramaine Williams, Marlon Griffin, Liane Griffin, David Griffin, Jr., Joel Thibodeaux, and Porsche Thibodeaux; one brother, Reed Perkins of Houston, TX and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 30, 2017, at 12:00 p.m., and funeral service at 2:00 p.m., at Greater Mount Zion Baptist Church in DeQuincy, LA, Rev. Marvin Durgan, officiating. Burial will follow in Community Cemetery in DeQuincy, LA, under the direction of King's Funeral Home.
