Octavia Sam Williams

The going home of Octavia Sam Williams has left a great void in our lives. We know that she is at rest with our heavenly Father.

On Wednesday, May 22, 2002 at 2:40 p.m., the angel of death came and bore the right spirit of Octavia Williams to a land that is free from sickness, sorrow and pain. She was born on November 14, 1915, to the late Freddie and Rosa Sam. She was preceded in death by her mother, father, three brothers, Harry, Johnnie and Jeffery Sam and one sister, Angel Sam and husbands Abraham Williams and Arthur Martin.

Mourning her passing, yet cherishing the memory of her love includes three devoted daughters and sons-in-law: Dorothy Martin Goodman and Peter of Arlington, TX, Rose Martin Wright and Frank of Durham, NC, Mary Jane Martin Jones and Lawrence of Lake Charles, LA and one sister, Ophelia Sam Harris of Lake Charles, LA., eight grandchildren: Alvin Irving, Jr. of Houston, Marie Irving Redmond of Opelousas, Laurette Wright, Jennifer Wright, Terrance Wright and Carla Wright Jukes, all of Durham, NC. Keith R. Jones, Sr. of Mobile, AL, Carl Edward Gant, Arlington, TX, eight great grandchildren: Rebecca Goodly, Sulffork, VA, Courtlyn and Aaron Gant, Arlington, TX, Keith, II and Karmen Jones, Mobile, AL, Cameron & Sterling Jukes, Durham, NC, Alvin Irving III, Houston, TX, Delvin Malonson, Arlington, TX; three great, great grandchildren: Aleysia and Giovanni Goodly, Sulffork, VA, Brianna Malonson of Arlington, TX, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Octavia lived in Opelousas, LA for 79 years. She was a member of Holy Ghost Parish and an active member of the Senior Sodality Society, St. Joseph Society, the Legion of Mary Society and the Morning Glory Rosary Group. After a massive stroke, she was moved to Lake Charles and became a member of St. Henry Catholic Church.
