Obituary

Ophelia Lafanette was born in Soileau, Louisiana on February 9, 1932, to the late Clement Sr. and Mary Ozane Bushnell. Ophelia was united in holy matrimony on April 17, 1950, to Joseph Leroy Lafanette, and to this union three children were born.

Ophelia was a founding member of the Throne of Grace Church since November 1997. She was dedicated to her church and was a faithful seed sower. She enjoyed participating in ministries at church which included the greeter and hospitality committee. She always had a million dollar smile. For over 28 years Ophelia was a devoted employee of Jamie & Charmaine Yelverton. She had a passion for garage sales. You could find her every Saturday morning with Pam garage saling, or "G-ing" as she called it, but the first stop was Nelson's for some hot donuts. She was extremely caring and loved to give to others. She greatly enjoyed driving her great-grandchildren to school every morning where they would have special talk time. Every Sunday, she could be found in her special chair in Pam's living room.

Ophelia was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years Joseph Leroy Lafanette; parents: Clement and Mary (Ozane) Bushnell; three sisters: Laura Mae Flucas, Mary Galentine and Helen Stine; two brothers: Clement Jr. (Paran) and James (Jim) Bushnell. After a beautiful and blessed life, she leaves to cherish her memory two daughters: Pamela (Johnny) Graham, Francine (Joe) Celestie; one son: Mark (Veronica) Lafanette; Granddaughter Kenna(Kenneth) Lovick; one sister: Dolores (Dee) Barker; three brothers: Edward (Mary Lee), Paul D. (Roxanne) and John (Betty) Bushnell; 12 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, all of Lake Charles, Louisiana. Also, 4 god-children, a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and Charmaine Yelverton, whom she referred to as her special angel.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 6, 2018, at 9:00 a.m., and funeral service at 11:00 a.m., at Throne of Grace Fellowship Church, Pastor Wilton Red, officiating. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Mausoleum under the direction of King's Funeral Home.
