Obituary

Philip Laurence Handy, Sr., was born in Jennings Louisiana on November 30, 1943, to Dewey and Georgiana Handy.  Philip Handy, age 79 went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, February 25, 2023, in San Jose, California, where he was a resident for over 50 years.

Philip "Peewee/James" as he was called attended Welsh Elementary school, Jeff Davis High School where he played football for two years and later Bethune High School in Welsh where he met his high school sweetheart, Annie Charles from Roanoke. They both graduated together. He worked with his father on the pipe line for a short period of time then moved to California and lived with his aunt Thelma.  He was in service with the United States Airforce at Mountain Idaho for four years and was honorably discharged by the military. Philip worked at McDonnell Douglas Aircraft in Southern California for NASA. He moved to San Francisco and worked for United Airlines for 34 plus years, where he received many honors. He obtained his Associate Degree at San Jose City College and furthered his studies at San Jose State University. At that time he and his family traveled and enjoyed going city to city sightseeing. He decided to coach track for young ladies for over five years where he witnessed the majority of them to receive scholarships to colleges.

He leaves to cherish his memories his wife, Annie Mae Charles Handy of San Jose, California and his two loving children, Tarsha Handy Stewart and Philip Handy, II from Las Vegas, Nevada; two granddaughters, Jasmine Handy and Jocelyn Handy from Anaheim, California; four grandsons, Dajai Stewart, Daren Stewart, Donovan Stewart and Darius Stewart. He leaves to cherish other family members, Stephanie Arceneaux, Courtlin Greis, Eric Arceneaux, Colby Arceneaux and Russell Lee Rosette (Rita) and children. He also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, neighbors and friends who touched the circle of his life.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 18, 2023, at 9:00 a.m., at Union Baptist Church, 1014 S. Main Street, Jennings, LA and funeral service at 11:00 a.m., at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 920 S. Broadway Street, Jennings, LA.
