Obituary

Queen Ester Sanders Combs, 91, departed this life on Thursday, August 4, 2016, in Lake Charles, LA.  She was born March 14, 1925, to the late Dewey Sanders and Nancy Bell in Tuscaloosa, AL.  She was baptized at an early age at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Mobile, AL, and in 1962, she united in marriage to the late Lawrence Combs.

She was president of the usher board at First Tabernacle Baptist Church in Oakland, CA. She later moved to Lake Charles, LA, in 1971, where she became a member of Evergreen Baptist Church also serving on the usher board. She later united with Christian Baptist Church and served on the usher board until her illness.

She leaves to cherish her memories, one daughter, Mary (Kerman) Chatman; one granddaughter, Nancy Combs, her four-legged friend, Roscoe; an adopted daughter, Erika Coffey; an adopted grandson, Jerry Williams; two caregivers, Patricia "Precious" Henney and Sheri Williams, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Dewey Sanders and Nancy Bell; her husband, Lawrence Combs; three sisters, Lula Logan, Annie Bell Logan and Lucille Knox; five brothers, Joe Logan, James Logan, Peter Logan, Gale Logan and Buck Logan.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 13, 2016, at 9:00 a.m. and funeral service at 11:00 a.m. at Christian Baptist Church, 202 N. Franklin Street, Lake Charles, LA, Rev. Edward Alexander, Jr., officiating.  Burial will be in Combre Memorial Park under the direction of King's Funeral Home.
