Richard Kent Gray , 72, departed this life on Thursday, December 15, 2016, at 4:50 p.m. in Lake Charles Memorial Hospital. He was born on August 16, 1944, to the late George and Leola Ross Gray. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Lake Charles, LA. He was employed by the Isle of Capri until the time of his passing. Richard was a retired bailiff with the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff Department for 28 years and an active Knight with the Knights of Peter Claver.
Upon graduating from high school, he joined the United States Army were he served his country for two years. He joined in holy matrimony to his loving wife of 20 years, Corathe M. Tolliver in Lake Charles, LA. He loved going to church and serving his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Richard had a love for life. He loved cooking, working in his yard, spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He will be deeply missed by family, friends, caregivers and numerous people who knew him.
He leaves to cherish his memories, his wife, Corathe Gray of Lake Charles, LA; two daughters, Melissa Harvey of Colorado and Amanda Higginbotham of Lake Charles, LA; two sons, Cleveland Paul Tolliver and Patrick Kent Tolliver, both of Lake Charles, LA; two brothers, Tommie H. Gray of El Paso, TX and Harold R. Gray of Los Angeles, CA; one sister, Idella Landry of Lake Charles, LA; 12 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, one Godchild, Raquel Gray Mouton and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Leola Ross Gray, his brothers, Melvin S. Gray, Norman Gray, George Gray, Chester A. Gray, Leonard F. Gray, and one sister, Geraldine G. Green.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 31, 2016, from 7:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., at King's Funeral Home with a Rosary at 9:00 a.m., and Knights of Peter Claver ritual at 10:00 a.m. and Funeral Service at 12:00 p.m., at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery under the direction of King's Funeral Home.
