Sandra Garrick "Sandy" Mason, 64, born June 17, 1949, in Lake Charles, LA, departed this life on Friday, August 30, 2013 at Christus St.Patrick Hospital in Lake Charles, LA. She lived most of her life in Lake Charles, LA. She was born to the union of the late Willie T. Garrick and Alma Babineaux Garrick. She was joined in holy matrimony to Edward P. Mason, Sr. on November 1, 1986. She was a faithful and active member of St. Henry Catholic Church and an active participant in various auxiliaries; namely, Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem, 4th Degree Ladies of Grace, Catholic Daughters, KPC Ladies Auxiliaries #168 and a member of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority. Sandra was preceded in death by her parents, Willie T. Garrick and Alma Babineaux Garrick, one sister, Manna Jean Garrick Scott Guidry, and one brother, Joseph Beauford Garrick both of Lake Charles, LA. Sandra was a long term employee of the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury for 30+ years until her retirement. Prior to retirement, Sandra spearheaded several projects and programs for the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury Office of Community Services. Some of her many accomplishments included obtaining funding from Capitol Outlay, with the assistance and finances of the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury and Representative Elcie Guillory, to build the Allen P. August Multi-Purpose Center located at 2001 Moeling Street, Lake Charles, LA, and the Office of Community Services Administrative Offices, located at 2424 3rd Street, Lake Charles, LA. Sandy was extremely elated to be an employee of the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury and have the "Willie T. Garrick Center" built, finance and maintained by the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury in honor of the community services provided by her late father, Willie T. Garrick. The Center is located at 900 Garrick Road, Mossville, LA. In addition, she also successfully secured funding for Calcasieu's Public Transit System, the first ever Calcasieu Parish Junior Golf Program, Project T.I.P.P. (a teen pregnancy prevention program), a male mentoring program, Partners In Manhood, and the love of her life project, "Toys For Tots". Sandra was a graduate of Mossville High School and furthered her education and graduated from Paine College in Augusta, GA. In Sandra's mind, there was never a project too large or small if it meant assuring her that all of the employees that she supervised had a job. She was a loving and caring individual who always put others first and burned many hours of midnight oil to accomplish any task that she believed would help in the securing job for all her employees. She leaves to cherish her memories, her loving and devoted husband of 30 years, Edward P. Mason, Sr., one son, Corey Wayne Mason (Denise) of San Diego, CA, one stepson, Edward Pernell Mason, Jr., one sister, Wanda Ann Garrick King (Willie Samuel, Jr.) of Westlake, LA; one adopted sister; Margaret Waldon Fontenot (Clarence) of Houston, TX; five grandchildren, Charednick Williams of San Diego, CA, Carrie, Damalia, D'Laysia, and Quaid Mason all of Lake Charles, LA; two nieces, Sheila Scott Avent (Joel) of Woodbridge, VA; and Lori Cooper of Texas; one nephew, "Lil Willie King of Lake Charles"; and host of other nieces, nephews, relatives, and community friends.
