Shelvin Alonzo John, 46, departed life on the morning of Thursday, March 31, 2022, in his home in Lake Charles, LA. He was born June 24, 1975, to Herbert Lee John and Margaret Marie Chavis-Harmon. Shelvin attended Lagrange High School, then decided to join the United States Armed Forces where he served four years. After leaving the Army, he began working various industrial jobs where he would eventually further his education to become a certified Pipe Inspector.
Shelvin was loved by many and known for his caring, outgoing, hardworking spirit. Always helping anyone in need and going out of his way, Shelvin was a stranger to no one. Of all things, Shelvin had a deep passion for cooking, being outdoors and enjoying quality time with his family. He loved to dance to his late grandfather, Boozoo Chavis, famous zydeco music. He also endured a love for football as he passionately cheered on his beloved New Orleans Saints.
He leaves behind to cherish his loving memories his dear wife, Donna Criner-John; his children, Tatiara Criner, Ja'Donta Blakley and Dillan John (London); siblings, Sheldon Lee John (Alana) of Jacksonville FL, Joneeka John of Lake Charles, LA and Santana John (Mckeithen Duhon) of Charles, LA; nieces and nephews, Jaylyn, King, Mckenzie, Kamryn, Marley, and Carson; Godchildren, D'Andrea Dixon, Calaigha Chavis, Aniyah Batiste, Tiara Malvo, and Armoni Clark and an array of loving family members. Godparents are Brenda and Adam Jones.
Shelvin was preceded in death by his loving parents, Herbert John and Margaret Chavis-Harmon (Curtis); grandparents, Adam and Ada John, Wilson and Leona Chavis.
Visitation will be held on Friday, April 8, 2022, at 9:00 a.m., at King's Funeral Home and funeral service at 11:00 a.m., at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Orange Grove Cemetery under the direction of King's Funeral Home.
