Obituary

A bright star entered this world on February 26, 1966 to the family of Roy Barker, Jr. and Ella M. Fontenot. Cynthia Arlene Barker became youngest offour children born to this union. At an early age Cynthia was baptized at her church home, New SunlightBaptist Church, under the leadership of the late Rev. Dr. V. E. Washington.A native of Lake Charles, LA, Cynthia was educated through the Calcasieu Parish Public School System. She completed her grade school education at LaGrange Senior High School in 1984. After completing high school, she attended McNeese State University.

Cynthia Barker decided that she wanted to serve her country by joining the United States Army in 1989, serving one year in the Reserve sector and continuing on to Active Duty. She served faithfully for 21 years. While serving she received numerous awards and certifications. Cynthia did several Tours of Duty in the countries of Korea, Kuwait, Somalia and Iraq. Ranking Staff Sergeant First Class (SSG), she truly enjoyed every part of her service in the U.S. Army. Cynthia Barker became a member of the Janice M Griggs Chapter #50 of the Order of the Eastern Stars in 2003. She remained an active member until the time of her death.

Cynthia Arlene Barker is preceded in death by her sister, Pamela Arlene; maternal grandfather, Maurice Fontenot; paternal grandfather, Roy Barker, Sr. and maternal grandmother, Alberta Joubert-Barker.

God called his bride home November 22, 2010 while at her residence in Moss Bluff LA surrounded by family. Cynthia leaves to mourn and celebrate her passing her mother, Ella Fontenot of Lake Charles, LA; father, Roy Barker, Sr. of Houston. TX; two brothers, Reginald Barker, Sr. (Alicia Barker) and Anthony Barker ( Carolyn Barker), both of Houston. TX; maternal grandmother, Mary Ellen Fontenot; three nieces, Lorena Barker, Pamela Barker, and Cassandra Barker, all of Houston, TX, three nephews. Brian Barker (Ahtavea Barker), Reginald Barker, Jr. and Julian Barker, all of Houston, TX, two great nephews, Xavier Kenneth and Brian Alexander of Houston, TX; two uncles, Roy (Jaquette Fontenot) of Lake Charles, LA and Worley Barker of Houston, TX, two aunts, Ada Fontenot (Burklin Fontenot) of Lake Charles, LA and Rena Faye Gordon of Gardenia, CA; goddaughter, Iyana Cynthia-Kai Tull; godfather, Nolton Anderson of Eunice, LA; special friend, Micheal Walls of Lake Charles, LA; and a host of cousins and friends.
