Obituary

To everything there is a season. A time for every purpose under heaven, a time to be born, and a time to die. Ecclesiastes 3:12

On the morning of Thursday, May 7, 2026 a loving son, husband, brother, father, grandfather, uncle and friend was the perfect flower that God looked out into his garden and saw. As He plucked the flower, God said 'Steven my child, it's time to come home and take your rest.'

Steven "Steve" Joseph Johnson Sr., 67, was born on November 15, 1958 in Lake Charles, LA. He was the first born child to the union of Edna John Johnson and Russell G. Johnson Sr. He was also the oldest grandson in the John family. Steven was a lifelong resident of the Lake Charles area. He accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized by the late Reverend Oscar Ford at Union Mission Baptist Church on Winterhalter Street in Lake Charles. He was a retiree from Southern Pacific Railroad and worked for Tadlock Pipe as well as for the city of Lake Charles. Steve enjoyed life, he loved to dance (with his two left feet) and sing (but never finished the song)! His hobbies included fishing and riding around town, burning gas! Steve was a country boy who loved to ride horses. He enjoyed hunting with his brother in law, Thomas. Steve loved spending quality time with his family and friends. He could be found hanging out with the men in Goosport on Booker Street. Steve never met a stranger and made everyone in his life feel special. Most people would describe him as the life of the party.

Steven leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter and strength that will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew him. As Steven's journey has come to an end, he leaves to cherish his memories, wife of eighteen years; Sharon Jackson Johnson, three sons; Steven Johnson Jr. of Portland, OR, Jermaine Johnson of Portland, OR and Jonathan Charles of Houston, TX, step daughter; Mary Bell of Lake Charles, LA, mother; Ms. Edna John Johnson of Lake Charles, LA, brother; Russell (Angelic) Johnson Jr. of Richmond, VA, sister; Geraldine (Thomas) Hagan of Lake Charles, LA, six grandkids and two great grandkids. As well as a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Steven was preceded in death by his father; Russell Johnson Sr., first wife; Emelda Johnson Hardy and daughter; Alexis Johnson.
