IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Sylvia Washington
Gallow
May 29, 1940 – August 19, 2025
Sylvia Mary Washington Gallow, 85, of Lake Charles, La. passed away peacefully on August 19, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Marksville, La. to Joseph and Eola Washington, with a spirited nature and heart full of love, she was a woman who lived unapologetically and on her own terms. She was 6th of 11 children. Though small in stature, her presence was unmistakably strong. She was known for her sometimes-brutal honesty, her wisdom, and her ability to speak the truth with grace and conviction.
She cherished life's simple joys and was rarely seen without her trusty blue ice chest, always ready for an impromptu visit that would turn into hours of laughter, stories, and memories. She enjoyed dancing whenever the music played, and frequenting the casino, where she was a VIP and never failed to find luck!
Above all, she dedicated her life to being a devoted wife and mother. Her greatest pride and joy were her family. Her children, Greg Gallow Sr. and Marlana (Robert) Collins were her whole her world. She delighted in her role as "Gram" to her 5 grandchildren (Ashanti Gallow, Alakyn Collins, Greg Gallow Jr., Quinton Collins, and Skyla Gallow) and great grandmother to one, Chayse Guillory.
Known for her elegance and impeccable style, she carried herself with dignity and grace. She took pride in her appearance, always dressed to the core. Her vibrant spirit, warmth, and sassy charm made her the life of any gathering, and she leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and strength that will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Eola Washington, husband, John Ray Gallow, brothers, George Washington Sr., Joe Washington, Junius Washington, sisters, Mary Lee Temple, Corrine Washington, Emma Guidry, and Lucille Washington Jones.
She is survived by her children, grandchildren, sister, Elizabeth Cox, brothers, Arold Washington Sr. and Michael Washington, goddaughter, Temple LeDuff, and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
