Thelma Nell Washington was born November 12, 1931 to the late Bertha Turner Washington and Jim Washington of Jonesville. LA. God in His infinite wisdom and timing, called her home on December 5, 2013. Ms. Washington was saved and baptized at the age of 15 years old at the Cedar Grove Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Reverend Ernest Johnson. She was a faithful servant until she moved to Lake Charles, LA in 1954. Upon relocation to Lake Charles, LA, she joined Greater Saint Mary Baptist Church where she humbly served under the leadership of the late Reverend R. B. House. In, 1971, Sister Washington became a beloved member of Mount Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Reverend Harvey Lawson and continued her service under the current pastor, Pastor Freddie G. Brown. She served faithfully in the Nursery, The Evangelistic Outreach Ministry, Women's Missionary Union, Sunday school, and new member orientation as an Equipper. It was her joy to assist teachers and students of Calcasieu Parish school system as a Foster Grandmother of The Big Brothers & Big Sisters Organization. In 2011, she was Foster Grandmother of the Year. She referred to the elementary age students as "My Little Ones". She is preceded in death by three children, Marvis O'Neal Collins, Connie Gwinnette Griffin and Millard Darnell Collins. She leaves to cherish her memories, two sons: Carl Dwayne Collins and Randy Luquine Collins of Lake Charles; four daughters: Auddie Kay Collins-Douglas of Fort Worth, TX ; Kandy A. Collins, Bertha Elaine Collins-Auzenne and Penny Denise Collins of Lake Charles, LA; two sisters, Alpha Shavers of Jonesville, LA and Shani Talibah of Oakland, CA. She also leaves a host of grandchildren, great- grandchildren, family, and friends to forever treasure her beloved memories.
