Valerie Captain , 65, departed this life on Friday, June 9, 2017, at her residence in Oberlin, LA. She was born on July 10, 1951, to Willie Ward Newsome and Ona May Jarette Newsome in Marbel, Arkansas.

She worked at Coushatta Casino as a slot tech in Kinder, LA., and was a member of Bread of Life Church in Oakdale, LA. She had a passion for cooking and sharing her new recipes with family and friends, especially her sweet treats.

She leaves to cherish her memories, her father, Willie Ward Newsome; four children, Valerie Michelle Captain, Ryan (Erika) Captain, Lee Scott (Kiara) Captain, Deadria Captain and their loving father, Leon Captain, Jr.; her siblings, Donald Ray Newsome, Larry Newsome, Marsha Newsome, Loretta Diane Hardeman of Omaha, Nebraska, Duane Newsome of Tampa, FL; five grandchildren, Devaunte, Joshua, Abigail, Elijah, and Ezra Captain; three great grandchildren, Kaden Lavan, Kelyn and Kameron Thomas and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Ona Mae Newsome and one brother, Bernard Newsome.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, June 17, 2017, at 9:00 a.m., and funeral service at 11:00 a.m., at Bread of Life Church in Oakdale, LA. Burial will be in Botley Cemetery in Kinder, LA, under the direction of King's Funeral Home.
