Verline Maxine Syas Jones , 93, made her peaceful transition to be with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Sunday, February 19, 2017. She was born on November 23, 1923, in Lake Charles, LA, and was the 7th child born to the late Samuel and Louise Syas.

She completed school at Sacred Heart and Second Ward Colored High School. She married the late Mr. Reuben Jones from Lake Charles, LA, who was the love of her life. She was baptized at an early age at Evergreen Baptist Church under the pastoral leadership of the late Rev. Moore. She worked faithfully at her church and in the community until her health began to fail. She never met a stranger because she would always start a conversation with everyone she encountered. Her beautiful traits of love and compassion were shown each and every day.

She leaves to mourn her passing, yet celebrated her life, her faithful nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and church family. Our family wish to thank all of the doctors, nurses and staff members who assisted in the care of Mrs. Verline Jones.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ruben Jones of 22 years; her parents, Samuel and Louise Syas; her sisters, Willie Mae Syas Porche, Ida Bell Syas Ray, Naomi Syas Stewart and Ruth Syas Franklin; her brothers, James Carter Syas, Isom "Ike" Syas, Jackson Syas and George "Candy Man" Syas.

Visitation will be held on Monday February 27, 2017, at 9:00 a.m., and funeral service at 11:00 a.m., at Evergreen Missionary Baptist Church, Rev. Robert E. Campbell, officiating. Burial will be in Combre Memorial Park under the direction of King's Funeral Home.
