Obituary

Wilbert DeVille Sr. was born July 18, 1949, to the late Allen DeVille and Beatrice Frank DeVille in Lafayette, LA. He departed this life on Thursday, October 6, 2016, at Lake Charles Memorial Hospital in Lake Charles, LA.

Wilbert was a graduate of Katie B. Thomas High School. Following high school he went on to serve in the United States Army, where he fought in the Vietnam War. Later, he was employed by the United States Postal Service for 34 years where he was the beloved & favored mail carrier for many. He was married to Mara (Davis) DeVille. Together they had five children. He was well known and never met a stranger. He was a good husband, father, grandfather and friend. He was so proud of his family, often showing off pictures of his grandchildren to everyone. He was often found playing basketball with family and traveling to his grandchildren's activities. Wilbert prided himself on never missing his children's events. During his retirement, he loved spending time with his brother, Louis. One thing he believed in was "family first." He loved the holidays and family events to spend time with all of his siblings.

His legacy will continue through his wife, Mara Davis DeVille; two daughters, Kimberly Jordan (Richard) of Houston, TX and Amber DeVille of New Orleans, LA; three sons, Wilbert DeVille Jr. (Markisha) of Newark, NJ, Michael Berry of Lake Charles, LA, and Mark Berry of Lake Charles, LA; fourteen grandchildren and several great grandchildren; Siblings, Eldon Louis  DeVille, Sr. (Shirley) of Lake Charles, Alberta Melancon (Donald) of Lafayette, LA, Barbara Joseph (Gary) of Tennessee, Sandra Jack of Kinder, LA, Jasmine Brown of Duson, LA, brother-in-law, Bramwell Christopher of Lake Charles, LA and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents Allen & Beatrice DeVille  of Jennings, LA and sister Kelly Christopher of Lake Charles, LA.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 15, 2016, at 8:00 a.m., at Mossville Truth Tabernacle, 1400 Gerstner Memorial Drive, Lake Charles, and funeral service at 10:00 a.m. at St. Margaret Catholic Church. Burial will be in Highland Memorial Park under the direction of King's Funeral Home.
