On Friday, the 31 st day of December 2020, Wilfred Joseph Chenier, a good and faithful servant, was called home to share in his Master's joy at the age of 73. Wilfred, affectionately called Wil, the third of ten children, was born in Opelousas, Louisiana on August 30, 1947 to Alfred and Elva (Roberts) Chenier, Sr.
He attended Grand Avenue until the fifth grade and graduated from Paul Dunbar High School in Washington, Louisiana in 1966. As a fighting tiger, he earned his bachelor's degree in Education from Grambling State University in 1970. He later graduated from McNeese State University with a Master's in Education and a Plus 30. He was a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Qualified Mental Health Professional. He founded Chenier Family Guidance Center in 1993 and later opened Chenier Family Counseling in 2010. Throughout his career, he held a variety of positions. He was an educator, guidance counselor, speech pathologists, testing coordinator and an academic advisor - until he retired from McNeese State University as the Dean of Student Services. Although he was retired, he continued counseling and began working at Bridgeway Psychiatric Center.
Wilfred attended St. Henry's Catholic Church for many years where he was a Eucharistic Minister and a member of the Knights of Columbus #5022 and the Knights of Peter Claver #168. He was active in his community and belonged to several professional organizations.
He leaves to cherish his memory, three sisters; Elizabeth (Calvin) Skinner of DeQuincy, Louisiana, Elva (Connie) Davis of Shreveport, Louisiana, Mary Chenier Hayes of Killeen, Texas; three brothers, Albert (Ann) Thomas of Huffman, Texas, Preston (Doris) Chenier, Sr. and Ray (Sandra) Chenier, Sr. both of DeQuincy, Louisiana; two brothers-in-Law, Eugene Mallet of Lake Charles, Louisiana and Franklin Hayes of Pensacola, Florida and two sisters-in-law, Martha Blake and Joyce Chenier, both of Houston, Texas; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, godchildren and a host of other family and friends.
Waiting to greet him in heaven are his Parents; two brothers, Alfred Chenier, Jr., and John Chenier; one sister, Patricia Mallet; one nephew, Ray Chenier, Jr., and two great nephews, Khoury Alexander Mallet and Michael Chenier, Jr.
A selfless soul, he was accomplished, yet humble. He gave more than he ever took; and he will forever live on in the hearts of those who loved him most.
