Willis Joseph Goodwin, Jr. was born on February 26, 1943, to Evia Goodwin and Willis Goodwin, Sr., in Church Point, Louisiana. Willis was one of 12 children, six boys and six girls.  Willis as a young man learned to farm with his father in Church Point.  His love for growing fruit and vegetables was one of his favorite hobbies.  Willis kept a garden with a variety of crops that he shared with family and friends.  In the 1960's, Willis left Church Point for Lake Charles in search of work. Willis Goodwin resided in Lake Charles for the remainder of his life.  Willis learned the trade of welding and made a living doing iron work and working as a contractor in Lake Charles, Houston and surrounding areas.  Willis Goodwin married the love of his life Mary Catherine Thomas on July 9, 2002, and they remained married until his passing. Together, Willis and Catherine enjoyed going to church, Mardi Gras balls, Zydeco's and visiting with family.  Willis became a father to Catherine's three children, Vallerie, Quentin and Shannon and was an excellent father and provider.  Willis faithfully attended Immaculate Heart of Mary as his church home.

On December 21, 2020 Willis Goodwin, Jr. left us for his seat next to the Lord. He leaves behind his wife, Mary Catherine Goodwin; children, Vallerie King of Lake Charles, Quentin Thomas of San Antonio, Texas and Shannon Thomas residing in Beaumont, Texas. Willis has three siblings that will miss him, Norma Goodwin, Thomas Goodwin and Paul Goodwin all of Lake Charles.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 29, 2020, at 9:00 a.m., at King's Funeral Home and funeral service at 11:00 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church.  Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery under the direction of King's Funeral Home.
